Atlanta fans were taken by storm last Wednesday, November 8th, when Korean rapper BewhY graced the stage of the Buckhead Theatre. It was the third to last stop on his highly anticipated The Blind Star US Tour, and wow— he completely delivered! The Show Me the Money 5 winner treated fans to a show filled to the brim with excitement and emotion. The atmosphere of the entire evening was nothing short of spectacular. From the slower, toned down moments, with mesmerizing lyrics and lights to match, to his hype, hip-hop hits, BewhY truly left it all on the stage!
The 24-year-old star is commonly known for his outstanding stint and win on the previously mentioned Korean hip-hop program Show Me the Money Season 5. The rap competition showcased not only his fierce lyricism, but also his stunning stage presence that was on full display Wednesday night. He’s already had an impressive career in such a short time. The award-winning soloist has taken the Korean hip-hop scene by storm! He’s collected huge achievements left and right, such as his first U.S. solo tour, collaborations with numerous industry heavyweights, including Jay Park and Simon Dominic, and much more. With that all that under his belt, it’s no wonder his album and tour promotion theme is theatre oriented. He showcased his many sides this week, from playful to serious, and left the audience, including myself, yearning for more.
Rather than starting with a bang, BewhY took a smart approach by calming his eager fans with his intro “Curtain Call,” which was a very fitting song for obvious reasons. You could feel the entire room charge with electricity as the rapper took center stage. Light blue beams of light illuminated his body as he effortlessly delivered his verses. Being a newer fan, I was absolutely in awe of the scene unfolding in front of me.
From there, the stage ignited with fire as red and orange lights adorned the rapper and the audience. BewhY gifted fans with scorching performances of everything from “Day Day” to “Wright Brothers,” proving why many people today believe he is the best artist in the Korean hip-hop scene.
Not only was his rapping on point, so was his fan service! BewhY took time to talk to the audience, joking around, and bragging about how locals complimented his outfits and sense of style, as well as reminding them of his bumpy path to success. As a very outspoken and dedicated Christian, he made sure to give thanks to God for his journey. You could truly feel how genuine his words were, and it was a touching moment for all in attendance. Following, he rolled out a couple of his Show Me the Money 5 hits, and the audience spit every word along with him. I was honestly speechless. Going in with as an almost blank slate, BewhY completely converted me into a full-blown fan.
The concert experience was more than the music for me. BewhY had a charisma about himself which rivaled that of seasoned entertainers. However, let’s talk about the music. His flow and usage of unique, yet catchy, beats was insane. I found myself bopping to everything the artist spewed out. However, the highlight of everyone’s night was when he performed “9ucci Bank.” The entire crowd erupted with excitement when the thick horns and base rumbled through the air. Even the most poised fans were on ten when BewhY bounced on stage in his embroidered baby blue jacket, yellow glasses, and fanny-pack to match. If you’d kept it cute all night, this was the time to get ugly!
Without a doubt, The Blind Star was one of the best concerts I’ve attended. This show was everything I didn’t know I needed and more! BewhY’s talent and entertaining skills are undeniable. Although he’s a soloist, his presence completely filled the room and his rhymes and delivery were A+. If you every get a chance to see him in concert, you should definitely take that leap and go! Even if you’re not familiar with all of his discography, it’s a guarantee that you’ll leave his show with a deepened or newfound love for him and his music.
