Here at WTK, we happen to love Jung Joon Young and his band Drug Restaurant!
As such, we decided to count down the five best Drug Restaurant tracks released so far! Starting from when the band first became Drug Restaurant— thus ditching the name JJY Band to become more inclusive of all the members— we’ll count down the best tracks these mellow rockers have produced. Be sure to catch up on other Drug Restaurant songs as well, so you can be prepared for when they land in the U.S. this fall for their upcoming tour!
At the top of our list is Drug Restaurant’s “Mistake.” Their debut song under a new name was not only a hit with 2.3 million views, but it also made the charts as well. The song talks about how to consciously consider that no one is perfect and that anyone can make mistakes. The band drew upon the audience’s sympathy for a lowly waiter being bullied— not only his boss and co-workers but by the customers as well. The song brings up questions about judging others too harshly. With a melodic rift and steady beat, this song defined Drug Restaurant’s mellow but dynamic sound.
The dark and haunting “Her”comes in second on our list! A hit rock ballad with eerie but sensual vibes, “Her” is a song of longing and waiting. Filmed with clips from their 2017 European tour, the song is the perfect soundtrack for European streets and ambient stages. With a slower rhythm, sad piano, and guitars that sound as if they’re bleeding their hearts out, the song evokes the singer’s confusion that his love has left. With the lyrics, he seems to be awaiting her return, but there is the question of will she really come.
Taking our third spot on the list is Drug Restaurant’s newest sensation “403.” Speculated to be a hotel room number, the song carries a deeply sensuous and hypnotic atmosphere. Jung Joon Young stares mysteriously into the camera as he sings about a woman on the verge of regret regarding her actions from the night before. The singer is almost daring her to feel this way, yet there is a suspicion that maybe she didn’t feel so burdened by whatever it was that took place in room 403 after all. Either way, the song captures the internal struggle with the subject’s emotion through sexy guitar rifts and intense piano melodies. Lucky for international fans, the song is in English! So, it looks like a real possibility that American audiences will hear the song this September during their tour.
Coming in fourth is Drug Restaurant’s track “Drink O2 In The Water.”A Nirvana-esque song with a So-Cal vibe, the song is reminiscent of mid-nineties rock with a hint of grunge. The song talks about a guy who is sick of the city and just wants to hit the beach and party. The video has many clips of beaches and waves and plays up drinking with friends in the sand. Another song in English, this track opened up opportunities for the band outside of South Korea. A definite must-know song for any Drug Restaurant fan, the song is one of their harder rock songs.
The song that manages to nab the final spot on our list is “Sexy Bomb.” The lyrics video below also gives a glimpse at their unique stages during live performances that drive fans wild! The song is about the singer who falls for a girl near the ocean. As he tries to woo her, he can’t help but notice her knock-out looks. With easygoing guitars and a bouncy beat, this is the perfect song to play for a crush or just to dance around to and go crazy on your own! Anyone can feel sexy and gain confidence with this catchy track!
