Super Junior‘s Heechul and BUZZ‘s Kyunghoon blurs the line between tradition and hip-hop in the music video for “Hanryang”! Its audio was originally released at midnight on December 20th KST while the music video finally dropped on December 26th at around 10 p.m. KST.
A riveting blend of hip-hop underlaid with a more conservative Korean beat, “Hanryang” was penned by Heechul, Kyunghoon, DinDin, and BIBI. Hanryang means “hedonist” or “pleasure-seeker” which is followed through by message of the song, advocating to live freely by your own rules and not paying attention to what other people say about you.
Rapper and TV personality DinDin produced the track while singer-songwriter BIBI and idol group ATEEZ added their own layer of fierceness to the overall feel of the project. Super Junior’s Shindong stepped in to direct the music video.
Heechul and Kyunghoon came up with “Hanryang” as a side-project related to their popular show on JTBC, “Knowing Brothers.” The pair had previously worked together on musical projects like “Sweet Dream” in 2016 and “Falling Blossoms (Aftereffects)” as Universe Cowards in 2018.
