WATCH: Sunmi Warns “You Can’t Sit With Us” In Blockbuster Music Video

A K-pop queen has returned!

Sunmi released her third mini-album 1/6 featuring the title track “You Can’t Sit With Us” on August 6th at 6 p.m. KST.

With a fast-paced beat and an addictive chorus, the retro-inspired song sings of anger towards a lover despite its cheerful soundtrack. The lyrics were solely written by Sunmi herself, as is every track on the album. Music and visuals work harmoniously in conveying the Y2K concept which includes an action-packed movie-like music video.

It contains nostalgic early 2000s imagery such as flip phones, video rental stores, classic zombie tropes, and over-the-top action film sequences. Everything is to be expected from a song whose title is a reference to the popular movie, “Mean Girls.”

Sunmi’s new album contains a total of 6 songs, including notable tracks “Call” which was co-composed by former HISTORY-member-turned-producer EL CAPITXN and a re-arranged version of the deeply personal fan-favorite, “Borderline.”

The latter was co-composed by Sunmi and written entirely in English, referencing the singer’s experience with borderline personality disorder. Speaking in 2020, Sunmi expressed her intention for the song to be a comfort to listeners who might be facing similar difficulties and she wanted to let them know they are not alone.

The former Wonder Girls member continues to impress by consistently breaking new ground, proving her unique artistry and formidable place in the industry.
