On December 12th at 6 p.m. KST, SHINee‘s Minho dropped the long-awaited music video for the title track of his first solo mini-album, CHASE!
“CHASE” is a hip-hop/R&B-based medium-tempo pop song with a piano loop and arpeggio synth sound added to a heavy bass line, resulting in a complex and emotional mood. The lyrics express the painful and empty feelings of chasing after a person who is getting farther away in a dream and waking up without being able to reach them.
Songwriter Lee Yeonji wrote the lyrics and has previously worked with Minho, sharing co-writing credits on SHINee’s “Area.” Grammy award-winning songwriter Kimberly “Kaydence” Krysiuk, rapper GEMINI (who also features on the album’s b-side track “Runaway”), producer Kwaca, and SMTOWN DJ/producer IMLAY all composed the track.
As an award-winning actor and film major, Minho stars and directs the cinematic music video as revealed during his “CHASE Commentary Live” ahead of the MV’s release. The singer’s directorial debut depicts a man trying to escape memories of his tragically lost lover which keep chasing him everywhere he goes.
CHASE, which has already been out for a week following its December 6th digital release, topped iTunes Charts all over the world in 39 different regions. It contains a total of six songs, including Minho’s SM Station track “Heartbreak.”
Aside from rapper GEMINI, singer-songwriter Lim Kim also features on the album as well as works by famous musicians from Korea and abroad such as LDN Noise, Cha Cha Malone, and Josh Cumbee.
