On August 30th at 6 p.m. KST, Key unveiled his latest single “Hate That…” which was pre-released from the SHINee member’s upcoming min- album. The track features fellow SMTOWN vocal powerhouse Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation (also known as SNSD).
The track is an R&B genre song with sentimental guitar melodies and a sophisticated rhythm. Key’s delicate singing and Taeyeon’s sorrowful tone meet together in unison to create a harmonious vocal chemistry.
Meanwhile, the monologue-style lyrics express the honest hope that your former lover has trouble moving on from the breakup.
“Hate That…” was written by superstar lyricist Hwang Yubin, who most recently worked with Key on SHINee’s “Atlantis” and Taeyeon on “Weekend.” It was co-composed and co-arranged by Stephen Puth, the younger brother of Charlie Puth and a prominent singer-songwriter himself.
This marks the fourth time Taeyeon has featured on a song with a member of SHINee. She collaborated with Jonghyun in 2014 on S.M. THE BALLAD’s “Breath” and in 2017 on his famous track “Lonely.” In addition, she worked with Taemin on “If I Could Tell You” from his latest album Advice.
Key’s solo album is set for release on September 27th.
