WATCH: New Virtual Idol Group Sphaze Debuts With “Starlight” MV

There’s a new virtual idol group on the scene!

Sphaze is a five-member virtual boy group consisting of second male leads from webtoons. The group name contains a double meaning of “special phaze” and “second phaze,” conveying their ambition to create a special life respectively and reflecting the desire to lead characters of their own story.

The member line-up consists of Do Minseong (Naver’s “July Blue”), Nithan (Naver’s “Captain! Is This Battlefield Here?”), Frederic (fKakao’s “I Stan The Prince”), Seo Tale (not from a webtoon but the only original character in Sphaze), and finally Ma Daehyeop (Naver’s “Lethal Romance”).

On September 30th at 12 p.m. KST, Sphaze released the first single album Starlight and the music video for its title track.

“Starlight” is a song about shining brightly like a star in the night sky. Sphaze’s own Frederic took part in composing the track as well as writing the lyrics alongside Seo Tale. Lyrically, it conveys the sentiment of walking by your side toward the future that will definitely shine brightly with the intent of giving a little comfort and hope amid an uncertain time that can sometimes feel scary.

The music video for “Starlight” introduces Sphaze and their universe as well as the friendship between the members.

The first single album Starlight also contains the B-side “Cloud 9” with lyrics written entirely by Sphaze. Member Do Minseong serves as the sole composer of the song while also taking part in creating the arrangement.

Before their debut, Sphaze (originally known as Oort Boys) built up a significant fanbase due to a variety of online activities. These included weekly YouTube live streams, the fan-participation program “Constellation Idol Project,” vocal and dance performances, and daily webtoons published on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
