WATCH: NCT’s Jaehyun Rises To New Heights With “Smoke” Solo Debut MV

On August 26th at 6 p.m. KST, NCT‘s Jaehyun released his first solo album J as the latest member of the group to put out an individual body of work.

The title track “Smoke” is a rhythmic and deeply atmospheric hip-hop R&B song with groovy vocals and lush guitar riffs over a rhythmic bass line. It also features a smooth and sultry flow with a minimalist and addictive drop in the chorus.

Jaehyun participated in the songwriting process and penned the lyrics, comparing a romantic moment in the car with a lover to smoke coming out of a boom box. The music video for “Smoke” explores the theme of narcissism as it gradually reaches its peak using various objects and visuals that switch between black and white.

Jaehyun’s first album J contains a total of eight songs each capturing a different color within the R&B genre. The artist not only participated in writing and composing but also personally conceived the direction of the record. The album contains the pre-release singles “Dandelion” and “Roses,” as well as an English version of the title track.
