MAMAMOO leader and vocalist Solar is back with her second solo mini-album COLOURS and the music video for the title track “But I” on April 30th at 6 p.m. KST.

The song is a mix of the R&B and rock genres and is a revenge anthem about shaking off the people who hurt you. It’s the first time the singer has challenged herself with a band concept and no choreography, making it fresh and new for both the artist and the audience.

Solar participated in writing the lyrics, alongside Kim Do Hoon and Lee Hoo Sang of RBW who also composed the track with Jenabi.

The cinematic production of the “But I” music video was filmed in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. It shows an unrestrained Solar performing with a band, and breaking free from hurt through acts such as breaking a piano with a sledgehammer and lighting a casket on fire.

The title of the album COLOURS combines the words “COLORS” and “OURS,” and expresses a message of embracing our diversity in all its colors. The follow-up to 2022’s 容 : FACE contains six new songs spanning an array of genres.

Solar participated heavily in the creation of the record, writing and composing three of the songs on her own, on top of co-writing and co-composing credits.

Notable B-Sides include “Colors,” a house genre song that features vogueing choreography from start to finish — and is another first for the singer. The album closer “Blues,” sees Solar try her hand at the underrepresented genre of traditional blues that also represents the color of her personality.
