12 years after K.Will’s iconic “Please Don’t…” music video, the beloved singer is back with actors Seo In Guk and Ahn Jae Hyun to deliver its sequel in “No Sad Song For My Broken Heart.”
Released on June 20th at noon KST, All The Way is K.Will’s seventh mini-album and his first release in over six years.
The title track “No Songs Can Express Me” is a break-up song set in a minor key, that suits K.Will’s emotional and solemn vocal tone which conveys sincerity without exaggeration. The honest lyrics written by legendary lyricist Kim Eana — who also wrote “Please Don’t…” among a string of other K.Will hits — poignantly capture the feelings of separation.
The song was produced by renowned composer Yoon Sang, perhaps known to newer K-pop fans as the father of RIIZE‘s Anton. He is an accomplished singer-songwriter in his own right with a career spanning over three decades. His lyrical composition is a worthy vessel to deliver the heartbreaking message within “No Songs Can Express Me.”
Actors Seo In Guk and Ahn Jae Hyun reprise their “Please Don’t…” roles as the two main characters in the cinematic music video, which picks up 10 years later from the previously established story. Inspired by a visual style similar to Hong Kong cinema, the subtle emotions of the two esteemed actors are compellingly conveyed through acts as simple as a detailed gaze.
When “Please Don’t…” was released in 2012, LGBTQ+ themes in K-pop music videos were few and far between, and BL K-dramas were not mainstream like they are today – especially within the idol industry. It spawned countless reaction videos from all over the world and earned Seo In Guk the playful nickname, “World Gay.”
12 years later it remains one of the most talked about K-pop music videos and one of the finest examples of representation.
