A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Korean film “Inrang.”
The film, based off of the 1999 anime “Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade” and the original Japanese manga “Kerberos Panzer Cop,” has been named by film critics as one of the most highly anticipated 2018 foreign films in the world¹. The story has its own twists for Korean audiences and takes place in the year 2029 as North and South Korea are finally set to reunite after many years of negotiations. Just when the long-awaited time of peace is about to become a reality, a terrorist group who opposes the unification comes into play, wreaking havoc in Korea and stirring up unrest among civilians as well. At this point, a special police force— one who will do whatever it takes to protect the hope of peace— is formed to combat the terrorist group.
Not only is the movie highly anticipated as a new adaptation of such a beloved anime and film, the A-list cast and crew have set the cinematic world talking as well. Directed by the versatile and respected Kim Jee-woon, the brilliant mind behind films such as “I Saw the Devil” and “The Age of Shadows,” the movie has been a long-term project of his since 2012. After such meticulous planning and work by the director, one of the most respected film actors in Korea was recruited for the project. Kang Dong Won of “Master” and “1987: When the Day Comes” takes on the lead while Han Hyo Joo (“W,” “Love Lies”) joins him as the female co-star. This will mark the reunion of the two after starring opposite each other in the 2017 film “Golden Slumber.” Meanwhile, popular actor Jung Woo Sung (“Steel Rain,” “The King”) adds an additional dose of A-list esteem to the film.
Other notable cast members include SHINee‘s Choi Minho (“Derailed,” “Hwarang”), Kim Moo Yeol (“Bad Guys: Vile City”), and Han Ye Ri (“Switch”).
“Inrang” (referred to internationally as Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade) hits theaters in July and will be distributed by Warner Brothers.
