INFINITE leader Kim Sung Kyu returned with his fifth mini-album 2023 S/S Collection and its earworm title track “Small Talk” on June 28th at 6 p.m. KST. The release is his first in seven months following special fan song “Like A Dream” last November which celebrated the singer’s 10th year solo debut.
“Small Talk” is an upbeat melodic track featuring a band sound that blends well with Sung Kyu’s clear voice, capturing your heart instantly. The song stays in your head with its addictive rhythm and sensible lyrics that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.
It was written by lyricist Kit and composed by members of production team ARTiffect including Jake K, STWP, AVENUE 52, and SQVARE.
The music video follows Sung Kyu’s unsuccessful attempts at breaking the ice with various people through conversation. It also features simple and fun choreography which – while not as complex as INFINITE’s signature “knife-like” dance moves – is performed with such effortless charms you cannot help but smile.
Meanwhile, Kim Sung Kyu – along with his group members- recently celebrated their 13th debut anniversary. It was also announced that the leader had established his own agency, Infinite Company, specifically for the group’s future activities as each member signed to a different company after their contracts ended with Woollim Entertainment.
In a rare occurrence for K-pop, the former company also freely transferred the naming rights to the group so they can continue to promote.
