Hoppipolla, who debuted in 2019 as winners of JTBC survival show “Superband,” made a comeback on August 20th KST with a fresh hit for the summer called “Let’s!”
Not your typical K-pop band, the quartet consists of a vocalist and keyboardist (I’ll), a cello player (Hong Jinho), a vocalist and guitarist (Ha Hyunsang), and a main guitarist (Kim Youngso).
The band’s name comes from a song title by Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, who are a big influence to the group, and means “jumping into puddles.”
The presence of a cello within the traditional rock genre makes Hollipolla stand out from the crowd and highlights their unique and attractive sound.
Each member has incredible musicality and refined skills for each of their respective instruments, with three out of the four members majoring in music (leader I’ll studying at Boston’s Berkeley College of Music).
These same members have had significant musical careers prior to joining Hoppipolla, with credits that include a successful solo career (I’ll), composing and writing prominent OST’s and K-pop group songs (Ha Hyunsang), and multiple grand prizes at classical music competitions all over the world (Hong Jinho). Youngest member Kim Youngso may not have as extensive of a resume as his fellow bandmates, however, his talent on the guitar alone is praiseworthy.
“Let’s!” is the follow-up to the band’s first mini album Spring To Spring which was released in April. It combines the group’s signature blend of orchestral pop and soft rock with a tropical beat and elements.
This charming and distinctive track, written and composed by I’ll, is about traveling to a place you don’t know, dancing and dreaming of healing. A timely message as most of the world is currently awaiting the end of lockdowns and anticipating a time when we can travel and meet freely again.
The bright and bubbly music video perfectly depicts the struggle of keeping our virtual hangouts exciting, presented in a fun and relatable way that is sure to deliver good vibes to you!
