On April 23rd at 6 p.m. KST, (G)I-DLE‘s Yuqi unveiled her first EP along with a music video for its title track, “FREAK!”
The song features a bossa nova rhythm with a minimalistic composition and organic instrumental sounds. Its lyrics describe a woman who’s attractive and a “freak” that captivates with their uninhibited nature.
Jop Pangemanan, Kyle Faulkner, Audun Agnar Guldbrandsen, and Rainy Day penned the song with Siixk Jun joining the line-up to compose the track.
YUQ1 is Yuqi’s first mini-album and contains a total of seven tracks with features by pH-1, Lexie Liu, and fellow (G)I-DLE member Minnie. The B-Side single “Could It Be” was pre-released earlier this week along with a music video.
This EP expresses Yuqi’s free-spirited and delicate nature with the hopes of encouraging other “freaks” to come forward and embrace their individuality.

Katherine grew up watching Korean dramas and other Asian shows. Although she first learned to appreciate Korean music through OSTs broadcasted locally, it wasn’t until 2011 that she properly paid attention to K-pop. She holds a fondness for SEVENTEEN and NCT and would recommend (G)I-DLE, Dreamcatcher, and XG to whoever cared to listen. She reads just about anything and is currently easing back into full novels.
