On May 28th at 8 p.m. KST, Filipino band Ben&Ben dropped the music video for their collaboration with DAY6‘s Young K!
“Leaves” was written by one of their vocals, Paolo Benjamin, and was originally released back in 2017 as one of the group’s breakout hits. The song gently speaks of love, forgiveness, and reassurance that time will soothe over the wounds. It takes on a fresh layer with the inclusion of Young K who sang verses of the track.
This reimagined version focuses more on how the full band managed to adjust the sound and feel for live adaptations through the years. Ben&Ben also finds that the lyrics are more relevant and universal than ever with the fatigue and anxiety that is gripping people everywhere. The group hopes that through the song, listeners might find solace and strength to go on despite the difficulties they meet on their paths.
“Leaves” has been covered extensively by many artists who enjoyed the hopeful message and the mellow sound. In 2020, Ben&Ben expressed their delight with unexpected news that their name and their song was trending on South Korea’s popular streaming site, Melon. Popular K-pop acts including NCT and Red Velvet were spotted playing and recommending songs from the band while DAY6’s Young K expressed his admiration for the group and its music on Instagram.
