The long-awaited collaboration from EXO‘s Lay, NCT 127, and Jason Derulo is finally here!
On February 22nd, the music video for “Let’s Shut Up & Dance” was released on the YouTube channel for 1theK. The video and song were done as a tribute to the legendary Michael Jackson.
The music video includes many colorful scenes of amazing dancers from around the world, lending an air of authenticity of what Michael Jackson stood for in his music. With Jason Derulo being an American of Haitian descent, Lay being Chinese, and NCT 127 being a K-pop group represented by many cultures in their member lineup, the collaboration is a perfect tribute to MJ! Meanwhile, the song itself was written by Jason Derulo, Ant Clemons, and Bong Bytheway.
A total of four songs will be released as part of the tribute project that was first announced in commemoration of what would have been Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday. The release “Let’s Shut Up & Dance” is the first release of the project. The project was started by Jerry Greenberg, chairman of 769 Entertainment and former president of MJJ Music, a label founded by Jackson in 1993.
Citing Michael Jackson’s work for unity and inclusion, Greenberg said in a statement, “Our hope is that through this special project, we can all come together in these challenging times and celebrate him, and to continue to keep his legacy alive for generations to come.” In the meantime, Taryll Jackson (the nephew of Michael Jackson) is working on the project as a family representative.
