On July 27th at 6 p.m. KST, EXO‘s D.O. enchanted eager fans with the release of his first solo album and a music video for its title track, “Rose.”
The acoustic folk song’s Korean lyrics were penned by D.O. himself, describing the experience of tenderly falling in love and asking the object of their affections to take a chance on them. An English rendition is also featured in his EP, this time with lyrics by Emanuel Abrahamsson and Benjamin Ingrosso who both worked with Axel Ehnström to compose the melody used for both.
According to an interview prior to his solo debut, D.O. wanted to share the experience of receiving positive energy and so narrowed down his ideas to center on the theme of “empathy.” He also filled the album with music which he personally wanted to do and since he holds a liking to the sound of acoustic guitars, he made sure to incorporate the sound into his project.
His mini-album, Empathy, features a total of six songs and two bonus titles. Singer and rapper Wonstein took part in the B-side song named “I’m Gonna Love You” while Jae from DAY6 participated in creating “My Love” as “eaJ.”
D.O. (Do Kyungsoo) previously released his solo single “That’s Okay” under SM STATION in 2019 and recently promoted with his fellow EXO members for the special album, Don’t Fight The Feeling.
