Another member has officially joined the SMTOWN family!
On November 17th at 6 p.m. KST, aespa dropped their debut single and music video, “Black Mamba.”
The song is a strong dance piece which was written by Yoo Youngjin who then helped co-compose the track with Omega, Ella Isaacson, Gabriela Geneva, Jordan Reyes, Shaun Lopez, and Scott Chesak. Singing about the threat of the “Black Mamba,” an antagonistic entity that devours everything in its path, the girls introduces a fascinating world which blends the digital and the fantastical.
aespa is composed of two Korean members, Karina and Winter, a Chinese member called Ningning, and a Japanese member named Giselle. Their group name means æ for “Avatar x Experience” and the word “aspect.”
In addition to being the first SMTOWN girl group to debut since Red Velvet, the girls were introduced alongside digital counterparts, called their “avatars,” bringing much curiosity to their unique concept.

Katherine has been an ELF since 2010. She reads just about anything and is raising a pride of demanding cats. She recently finished TGCF and 2ha. She’ll probably get to reading SVSS and MDZS next before hunting down other novels. Can’t wait to suffer with Chu Wanning in Immortality!
