Onew (Lee Jin Ki), the leader and eldest member of SHINee, will join the military as an active duty soldier on December 10th.
He will received basic military training and serve active duty. Onew became the first member to announce the news of his military enlistment.
Onew, who made his debut in 2008 with SHINee, received great love from their debut track “Reply” before going on to become one of the most famous groups in K-pop. With the modifier of “contemporary band,” SHINee has consistently set trends for various sectors such as music, dance, fashion, and as a representative of Korean Wave over the past 10 years. Onew also began acting in “Seattle Bean Royal Villa” before gaining exposure for his role in one of the biggest hits dramas in South Korea: “Descendants of the Sun.”
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment expressed Onew’s desire for a quiet enlistment. As such, the exact location will not be announced and no event will be held for fans or press.
