Day one of KCON LA 2016 kicked off with an amazing concert, full of the most in-demand K-pop stars and groups! The venue was packed as people waited for the show to begin!
Before the show, popular K-pop violinst JunCurryAhn performed, thrilling fans with his rendition of “Save Me” by BTS. Other performers also got the crowd pumped up with their pre-show performances.
To kick off the official start of the event, the famous actor Lee Min Ho came out to the thrill of those in attendance. He shared about the history of KCON and then got the fans worked up for the first performance of the night!
I.O.I came out first, much to the excitement of the fans. The “Produce 101” group got everyone singing “Pick Me” as the famous song blared out loudly while the girls sang with gusto and showed off their catchy choreography. Afterwards, Dean came out and performed two R&B songs for his set, melting the audience with his cool persona and velvet smooth vocals.
Next up was a bright, summery performance by popular girl group GFRIEND! The audience really got into their performance, dancing along and singing out loud. The group showed off their slick choreography and bubbly personalities through every second of their performance!
Block B‘s famous rapper Zico then came out on stage for special collaborations. First, he and fellow Block B member U-KWON sang Zico’s hit track “Boys & Girls.” Afterwards, he followed it up with a collaborative stage with his good friend Dean.
Amber Liu of f(x), who also hosted the event throughout the night with SHINee‘s Key, was able to perform during the concert as well, getting fans worked up with her funky song “Shake That Brass,” among other tracks. Her performance was followed by special performances of Turbo songs by groups Astro and GFRIEND. Afterwards, the group stayed out onstage as the backup dancers for the live performance of the real Turbo, bringing a retro style to the arena that the audience ate up with glee.
Hip-hop group Block B then came out together for a truly excellent stage that showed off their versatility as musicians, as well as their popularity with K-pop fans of all ages. Their stage began with slower tracks before gradually picking up pace to perform some of their most upbeat and famous tracks like “Very Good.”
For the finale of the night came the long-awaited performance of powerhouse group SHINee. The legendary group was truly the star of the night with fans going absolutely wild when they appeared on stage after much fanfare, exciting music, and dramatic lights. They performed songs from their most recent album, such as “View,” as well as some of their most popular tracks like “Replay” and “Everybody.” To close things out, they even got the crowd excited by announcing they would soon make their comeback and were preparing for a new tour!
The first day’s concert of KCON LA 2016 was most definitely a night to remember and only served to make fans more excited for what the convention has in store for day two’s concert. Come back tomorrow for another review!
