“Parasite” Makes History As First Korean Film To Win Best Foreign Language Film At The Golden Globes

Director Bong Joon Ho has done it again!

On January 5th, the famous director added to his accomplishments as he took home his first-ever Golden Globe as “Parasite” won the “Best Foreign Language Film” category. “Parasite” is a biting look at society and human nature, earning the coveted Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. With a star-studded cast, including people like Korea’s famous Song Kang Ho, the movie was well-acted, well-directed, and well-written.

Bong’s acceptance speech was short and eloquent as he used a translator to communicate the majority of what he said. “Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films,” he stated as the audience cheered and the cast of the movie grinned proudly from their own seats of honor at the event. “Just being nominated along with fellow amazing international filmmakers was a huge honor. I think we use only one language: the cinema.”

The film has garnered rave reviews from fellow directors, actors, and film critics worldwide, as well as excellent reviews from movie fans themselves. In fact, American media has been abuzz with news of Director Bong at various Hollywood parties this month, testifying how he is the main person people want to meet at each event as stars like Leonardo Dicaprio make their way to the director and shake his hand as they tell him what a great movie he directed.

The day before the Golden Globes, “Parasite” made history again by becoming the first Korean movie to win “Best Picture” at the prestigious National Society of Film Critics awards in the U.S.A. In addition, it also won “Best Screenplay” from the society.

We congratulations Director Bong and the cast and crew of “Parasite” on their historic win!
