New details have emerged through the police’s investigation in a series of scandals which came about as the result of the Burning Sun case.
On April 1st, it was revealed that former BIGBANG member Seungri and former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk have been booked on suspicions of embezzlement. The commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency held a press conference to officially announce the recent developments that have come about as a result of their investigation. The commissioner stated that through the course of the investigation, Seungri and CEO Yoo were found to have embezzled tens of millions of won (tens of thousands of USD) at their Monkey Museum club.
The commissioner also revealed that Senior Superintendent Yoon, who was previously booked on suspicions of using his police position to leak confidential information in an attempt to help cover criminal activity tied to the case, has also been booked on a new charge of receiving bribery. A special detective division said they were able to confirm through their investigations that Senior Superintendent Yoon did not pay for part of his expenses during a golf game and meal with Seungri and CEO Yoo. During the investigation into these facts, Seungri admitted that he had gifted the Senior Superintendent with three tickets to a BIGBANG concert. If charged and found guilty, this means that thee Senior Superintendent was guilty of violating the Kim Young Ran Act, a special law which prohibits public officials from accepting gifts that cost more than 50,000 won or accepting meals that cost more than 30,000 won (among other rules). Meanwhile, the police are still investigating these allegations—the outcome of which could possibly affect Senior Superintendent Yoon’s wife as well since she also received one of the tickets.
In addition, a police source revealed that the investigation is still ongoing concerning allegations against Seungri for engaging prostitution services for his clients. The source stated that after two weeks of investigation, they received a testimony about Seungri providing sexual escort services. However, this has not yet been confirmed and no official charges have been made. As such, the source went on to say that they are still investigating whether these alleged services were offered in exchange for investments and whether or not Seungri himself gave the order.
(UPDATE) The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency commission revealed additional information through the press conference. He shared that through the police investigation, they’ve booked 103 suspects and arrested 14 of those so far. Although the statistics break down differently concerning the exact charges, each of the bookings and arrest consisted of drug charges in Burning Sun and other clubs, including the distribution of a date rape drug. No details were revealed concerning who had been arrested, but the police did reveal that they had applied for an arrest warrant for the Burning Sun CEO Lee Moon Ho. However, the request for the warrant was turned down, despite the fact that he had tested positive for drugs.
