Lotte Department Store and SM Entertainment have come together to make sunglasses!
On June 28th KST, Lotte Department Store announced that it will sell “Oeil” (which means “eye” in French) sunglasses. The new line of glasses are made in collaboration with SM Entertainment and will be available starting the 29th of this month. It will be sold first in the main stores in Myeongdong and Jamsil, with 30 products to be shown.
Lotte Department Store will use its distribution network to develop and operate stores and sell the products. SM Entertainment’s “SM Brand Marketing” is responsible for brand development, marketing to domestic and overseas customers. Grand Company, which has been producing glasses-related products for 30 years, will be in charge of product planning, production and logistics.
The sunglasses market has been dominated by imported brands, but the atmosphere has been changing over the past two years. According to Lotte Department Store, domestic brands accounted for only 5% of the sales of sunglasses in 2015, but it jumped to 30% last year. Gentle Monsters, a Korean eye-wear brand which is gaining popularity, is a good example of this with average sales of approximately $2.27 million USD.
New products, which will be part of the “Unique” line, will showcase individuality while also being comfortable to wear. The price of the representative product is around $217 USD (248,000 won) and are aimed at being popular with young people
There is also a line that reflects the colors and patterns that represent idol groups belonging to SM Entertainment such as TVXQ, SHINee, EXO, and NCT. The average price is $104 USD approximately (118,000 won ). There are also plans to release a luxury line made of 14K gold products.
Nam Yoo Jin, Lotte Department Store’s Product Planner, stated, “We will show good quality sunglasses with a unique design for young people in their 20s.”
