On February 20th, fans at the current Olympics in PyeongChang went wild when Korean athletes earned another gold for their country! The Korean Women’s Team won gold at the Women’s Short Track Speed Skating’s 3,000 Meter Team Relay.
The Korean Women’s Short Track Speed Skating Team, composed of Kim Alang, Shim Sukhee, Choi Minjeong and Kim Ye Jin, garnered gold and thereby defended the title they won at Sochi 2014.
It was China who was leading the race, but Choi Minjeong persevered at the last lap with the support of the home crowd. With their loud cheers for her team, she finished the race with a combined record of 4.07.361. China finished the race shortly afterwards but were later disqualified, permitting Italy to gain silver.
Canada, a country ranking as one of the top winners during these Winter Olympics, was also disqualified, which in turn gave the Netherlands an unexpected win of the bronze medal.
Korea started the race at the back of the pack before picking up speed during the remaining two laps, clinching a swift win and defending their title of champions at the event.
Choi proudly said that the performance was really great and winning gold in front of her home crowd makes it more meaningful.
Congratulations to the Koreas Women’s Team!
