Kfilm The Handmaiden is a worldwide success!
Held today on February 18th, the 71st British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) awarded director Park Chan Wook‘s The Handmaiden “Best Film Not in the English Language.” In addition to this amazing achievement, the movie racked in a whopping $37 million worldwide.
Inspired by Sarah Water‘s Victorian era-centered novel Fingersmith, the erotic psychological thriller centers around the story of Korea ruled by colonial Japan, following the story of two women, a wealthy Japanese woman who lives on her own in an estate and a Korean woman she hires as a handmaiden. The Korean woman turns out to be working with a conman to swindle the Japanese woman of her wealth.
