“K-School” Makes History With Four Award Wins At The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival

Korean movie-musical “K-School” has been creating a global buzz since it earned 11 nominations at the 6th Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF)!

During the ceremony in Canada on October 30th, the film took home four awards namely “Best Actor – International,” “Best Female Filmmaker – International,” “Best Musical Theme Film,” and the “TINFF2022 Viewers Choice Award.”

GreatGuysBaekgyeol (Jung Semin) won the best international actor award, which makes him the first Korean actor ever to win in the category. Not bad for his first acting role! Speaking about his win, the singer took to GreatGuys’ Official Instagram to express his thoughts:

As Ray in the musical movie “K-School”,
The first Korean actor to win the best actor award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival!
I just did my best because I had a great opportunity. Thank you so much for being able to receive a big award for your first acting challenge!

In addition, “K-School” director Park Mikyung was awarded “Best Female Filmmaker – International” and she accepted the “Viewers Choice Award” on behalf of the movie through a video message where she thanked the main cast of WJSN’s Dawon, April’s Yena, and GreatGuys’ Uiyeon and Baekgyeol. She also went on to express her gratitude to the audience who have been so supportive of “K-School.”

“It is a beautiful work that gave millennials around the world, who lost their dreams due to COVID-19 and the long-term economic downturn, the courage to challenge their dreams again. I’m impressed by the musical genre that allows me to appreciate K-pop idol stars’ singing, dancing and acting at once, and the main actors’ unique performances in different colors that I can’t believe it’s their first screen debut… It’s only natural that K-School was nominated for 11 categories.”

“K School” competed with more than 300 works submitted from 110 countries around the world including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Spain, and Italy. In response, TINFF also mentioned that “K School” was the first most nominated work in TINFF’s history.

The world-first 8K musical film is about the dreams, love, and friendship of millennials against the backdrop of a fashion school. “K-School” is set to meet audiences around the world after its domestic release in Korean theatres this winter.
