Jung Joon Young And Choi Jong Hoon’s Appeals Hearings Come To An End With Reduced Sentences

Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon‘s prison sentences have been decided.

In November of 2019, the former singers, along with three other individuals, were charged with aggravated rape. Jung Joon Young received a six-year prison sentence, and Choi Jong Hoon received a five-year prison sentence. Both men appealed the sentences, leading to new hearings which began in February of this year.

The final sentencing was supposed to happen on May 7th, but the lawyers for the men requested a delay of five days. This was due to the fact that Choi was trying to reach a settlement with a victim, and Jung was trying to reach a settlement with another victim. However, the results are finally out, and both men have received a lesser sentence in the end.

Jung Joon Young was unable to reach a settlement with the victim, so his appeal resulted in a reduction of a six-year sentence to a five-year sentence. The courts revealed that Jung did not submit a written agreement with the victim, and although he continues to deny the charges, he is able to describe the situation at the time in details. However, they stated that he is sincerely reflecting on his actions.

Choi Jong Hoon’s sentence was reduced from five years to two years and six months. This was mostly due to the fact that he was able to reach a settlement with the victim. The courts revealed that the settlement with the victim greatly affected his sentenced, but they revealed, “However, he continues to deny the charges and lacks sincere self-reflection.”

In addition to their prison sentence, the two will have to undergo an 80-hour treatment program for sexual violence.

One of the other men on trial (a former MD of the Burning Sun club) had his sentence reduced from five years to four years, while the other two remained the same with a two-year suspended prison sentence.
