Jinusean’s Sean Begins 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge + SNSD’s Sooyoung Becomes First To Participate

Sean, of the YG Entertainment hip-hop duo Jinusean, has begun a 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge!

The musician, known for his extensive charity work, is currently working to open a hospital that specializes in Lou Gehrig’s disease (also known as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS). The 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge is meant to both bring awareness to the cause and result in donations for the new hospital.

Sean, called by many as a “Charity Angel” and even “The #1 Celebrity in Korean Charity,” has long been known for his charity work. A fact, he says, that is driven by his Christian faith. From donating millions of won to charities, participating in a triathlon to raise awareness for pediatric diseases, to personally sponsoring children in other countries through Compassion International, Sean always makes sure to use his fame to bring about good to the world.

As such, it should come as no surprise that the artist is now starting a new challenge and already getting other celebrities involved. Sean stood beside friend and famous basketball player and coach Park Seung Il, who has suffered from ALS since 2002, and personally started off the 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge. Sean explained that he met Park Seung Il in 2009 and promised to help him build a hospital for ALS patients, a personal and important dream of Mr. Park. Sean then tagged SNSD‘s Sooyoung, actor Daniel Henney, and actor Park Bo Gum and challenged them to participate as well.

Sooyoung, who also knows Park Seung Il and has visited him several times in the hospital in the past, quickly rose to the challenge and became the first to participate in the 2018 Ice Bucket Challenge. As a result, she forwarded the challenge to actor Dong Hyun Bae (brother of BIGBANG’s Taeyang, “SNL Korea” star Kwon Hyuk Soo, and SNSD’s Seohyun.

ALS is horrible disease that causes the death of neurons that control voluntary muscles, leading to stiff muscles, muscle twitching, difficulty speaking, swallowing, breathing, and eventually resulting in death. There is no known cure for the disease. In 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge was started to raise awareness for the disease and funds for research and treatment options. In fact, the challenge was co-founded by Pat Quinn, a man who also suffers from the disease. The campaign went on to raise over 220 million USD and resulted in amazing research that led to new discoveries and treatment options that are currently in the trial phase.

Check out the videos of Sean and Sooyoung below. Isn’t it great seeing people use their faith and fame to do good in the world?
