“Tomorrow’s National Singer” is an upcoming entertainment program from TV Chosun, the producers behind the most popular singing show in Korea “Miss Trot.”
The show is a large-scale audition that welcomes anyone who loves singing and has a desire to perform on stage. Everyone regardless of age, nationality, gender or industry can apply, thus various age groups are reflected on the show, ranging from the youngest at 7 years to the oldest at 55 years old.
The 111 participating teams come from all walks of life including front-line workers, students, hospitality workers, shop owners, salespeople, construction workers, vocal teachers, dancers, musical actors, YouTubers, fitness models, a housewife, delivery app driver, and other professionals.
Several current and former idols also competing on the show are boy group GreatGuys, vocal trio Classmate, BIGFLO’s Euijin (formerly of A.Cian and UNB), Boys Republic’s Choi Sunwoo, VROMANCE leader Park Jonghyun, former MYTEEN and B.O.Y member Kim Kookheon, former GIDONGDAE member and “Produce 101” contestant Kim Yehyeon, former BLANC7 member-turned-soloist and YouTuber SPAX, and former SHU-I and ZEUS member Park Minho.
Other notable competitors are main vocalist of indie rock band The Solutions – Park Sol, former vocalist and guitarist of Korean rock group Norazo – E Hyuk, music producer and former TRAxX guitarist Kim Jungmo, Lim Hanbyeol (better known as artist Onestar), singer-songwriter David Oh, “I Can See Your Voice” balladeers Ko Seunghyung and Kwon Minje, “Vocal Play” winner Lim Jisoo, “The Voice Korea” contestants Kim Youngheum and Ji Sehee, ballad singer Jo Yeonho, “SuperBand” star and son of veteran actors Yoo Donggeun and Jeon Inhwa – Jisang, Korean-American singer Yu Jiny, and pre-debut girl group Seasoning.
Mentoring the contestants and giving them advice are superstar vocalists Kim Bumsoo, Baek Jiyoung, K.Will, Lee Seokhoon of SG Wannabe and JYJ‘s Kim Junsu (XIA). Providing strength to participants as “national singer supporters” are singers Park Sunjoo and Shin Ji, musical composer Yoon Myungsun, 3rd place winner of “Mr. Trot” singer Lee Chanwon, and OH MY GIRL‘s Hyojung.
“Tomorrow’s National Singer” will be hosted by MC Kim Sungjoo and begins airing on Korea’s TV Chosun on October 7th at 10p.m KST. The winner will receive prize money of 300 million won, which is over $250,000 US dollars!
