Heo Young Saeng Says He Wants To Reunite For SS501’s 15th Anniversary

Hopeful news for the Triple S fandom! Heo Young Saeng said he would like to reunite for SS501‘s 15th anniversary!

On December 2nd, an interview was published in Korea where Heo Young Saeng talked about SS501 and the possibility of new music from the group. The famous group was one of the biggest, most in-demand groups during the height of the Hallyu wave. They debuted in 2005 and later went on hiatus in 2010 when their contracts with DSP Media were finished. However, it soon became evident that the demand for SS501 was still high as ever since their past albums continued to rank high on charts, making them one of the top-selling boy groups in Korea for the next three years. In addition, the members of SS501 all went on to have successful solo careers, and three members now promote successfully as the sub-unit Double S 301, proving their fandom is still going strong.

Recently, member Kim Kyu Jong commented on a radio show that he had wanted to reunite for their 10th anniversary or even the anniversary of their Japanese debut (which was this year). When asked about it, Heo Young Saeng responded that it wasn’t possible to reunite this year since member Kim Hyung Jun is currently serving in the military, pointing out that if they are going to reunite, it needs to be with all five members.

However, he went on to reveal that their former Japanese staff got together for a party in September in honor of the group’s Japanese anniversary and invited all the SS501 members to attend. In the end, everyone was able to attend, with the exception of Kim Hyung Jun.

Young Saeng then revealed that the members talked during the party about whether they should release an album once Hyung Jun is released from the army. He went on to admit that they had actually talked about all five members reuniting for an album in the past, but due to the members serving in the army at different times, their plans fell through.

When asked about who SS501 was to him, he replied that they were friends who debuted together and did everything together. He went on to state, “SS501 are my friends who were with me for the start of my life and through the hardest times. They are all a part of my memories of life. They are friends for whom I am very thankful.”

SS501 Reunites On Stage in 2013

He also went on to reminisce about their mini-reunion back in 2013 where they thrilled fans by reuniting on stage during Young Saeng’s final solo concert before enlisting. “I asked all the members for a favor… and they all obliged. Four of us sang together, and Kyu Jong, who was already serving as a public servant at the time [and couldn’t perform], joined us on stage at the end.”

That moment proved to be a precious one to fans as they were given a new burst of hope to see the members all stand together on stage once more and leading many to renew their vows to wait for the whole group for as long as it takes.

If Heo Young Saeng gets his own wishes fulfilled, however, the fans won’t have to wait too long. “If we were able to reunite again, I would like to reunite in 2020. It has [a lot of] significance as our 15th anniversary, and it would be a good opportunity [to reunite]. It might be giving false hopes to our fans, but this is my desire. You never know what will happen.”

With the start of 2018 just around the corner, fans wouldn’t have to wait too long for a SS501 reunion and album if the group is able to celebrate their 15th anniversary in such a special way. However, the fact that gives fans the most hope is that the members seem to want a reunion to happen just as much as the fans do.

Until then, the SS501 fandom continues to wait in hope!

What do you think, Triple S? Will a 15th aniversary reunion really happen?
