On October 4th KST, it was revealed that Donghwi of boy group GreatGuys will join the military on November 12th!
The surprising news was first posted on the group’s official fancafe in a statement by company DNA Entertainment. It was written in both Korean and English for domestic and international “Grace” (GreatGuys’ fandom name).
“Hello, we are DNA Entertainment.
We are truly sorry to inform you of the sad news. Donghwi will join the army as a conscripted policeman on November 12th.
I’m sure many Grace are upset and sad about the news of Donghwi’s enlistment, but please give him a lot of support and encouragement to stay healthy until the day Donghwi is discharged from the army.
Donghwi will spend time with his family in his hometown, except for the official schedules of GreatGuys (content shooting, advertising, online video calls, etc.) before joining the army.
DNA Entertainment will do its best to ensure that Donghwi can resume his activities in a stable manner after he is discharged from the military.
Thank you so much to Grace for supporting and loving Donghwi, and please continue to support and love him until the day he leaves the army.

Donghwi followed the announcement with a handwritten letter posted on the group’s official Fancafe and Twitter, where the main vocalist acknowledged that fans must be surprised by the sudden news, and expressed his heartfelt thanks for all the love he has received as an idol thus far.

Hello, Grace! Were you surprised to see the notice on the fan cafe? I’m sorry to inform you so suddenly. Actually, I’m not sorry, but I’m sad that I can’t say hello to you in person because of corona. I can’t say that I’ve been active for a long time, but from my trainee years to this RUN album, I’ve been able to be happy and healthy thanks to “Grace.” I’ve told you this before, but you’ve made me shine every moment. Thank you so much for making me special. I’m so glad that you always love me and support me. Compared to that, I don’t think I’ve done much for you yet. But this isn’t the end!
