Former President Barack Obama Talks Kimchi And SHINee In New Speech

Former U.S. President Barack Obama made some surprising references in his speech today at the Asian Leadership Conference.

On July 3rd, President Obama spoke to a full room at the yearly conference and talked about everything from political tensions between North and South Korea to his love of kimchi and bulgogi. What surprised some people though was his mention of Kpop group SHINee.

After mentioning the influence of Korean culture on international youth, he went on to specifically mention SHINee. “Many young adults are learning Korean to understand SHINee. In addition, I do know that SHINee likes America’s In-N-Out Burgers.”

The president went on to talk about other things as well. “I have visited Seoul four times as President of the United States and has found more than any other city outside the United States… This demonstrates the solidarity of the ROK-US alliance and also shows how much I like kimchi and bulgogi.”

He also went on to state, “South Korean shows the power of the free market, the democratic rule, and a connection with the whole world… because Koreans have a strong commitment to creativity and democratic procedures, innovation and amazing working ethics. If you look at Seoul, you can see the vast opportunities and the vibrant culture of open society.”
