Former 2NE1 Member Minzy Reveals She Has Left Her Company

Minzy can finally start looking to a new future!

On April 17th, it was revealed by Minzy that she has left her company after finally coming to an agreement with them after a long dispute. Back in September of 2019, the former 2NE1 member filed an injunction to end her exclusive contract with her company, as well as to claim 50 million won (approximately $43,000 USD) from them. After her request was denied, Minzy went on to address fans, revealing that she would have to began a dispute with The Music Works that she feared would not be solved quickly. In her statement, she revealed that she had been promised at least four album releases per year when she signed with the company. However, she only released one album in the entire four years she spent under the label. In addition, she said she didn’t receive a single won of payment from them and was refused financial statements every time she asked for them. Regardless, the court sided with the label and denied her request in December.

However, it appears an agreement has finally been reached between Minzy and The Music Works because Minzy has revealed that she has parted ways with the company and is looking forward to working again and seeing her fans once more. She revealed a new photo on Instagram, along with the following statement in both Korean and English:

“I’m about to embark on a new journey. I left my company and got the freedom. For the fans who always support me, I ended the contract with my agency well through negotiations. I leaved much to be desired because I haven’t been able to show you my works and performance in recent years, but from now on, I can show you more often. I will meet you brightly and energetic on the stage to match the name, Minzy. Above all, I will communicate more often with fans who always support me! Thank you.”

She is well-known for her strong dance skills and had a video of her dancing go viral in Korea when she was in sixth grade. Due to this, the CEO of YG Entertainment at the time got in touch with her and signed her to his label. After 2NE1’s contracts ended and the group was set to disband, Minzy then signed with The Music Works to begin as a soloist. She then released her solo debut mini-album, Minzy_Work_01:_ Uno, in 2017. Her latest release was an English-language track entitled “All of You Say” in 2018.

We wish Minzy the best of luck in the future and hope she sees much success in the newest step of her journey as a solo artist and musician!
