BTS is the first Kpop group to have ever been certified gold in the United States!
RIAA, also known as the Recording Industry Association of America, has just certified BTS’s “MIC Drop (feat. Desiigner) [Steve Aoki Remix]” gold on February 3rd (EST). Desiigner, as well as Eshy Gazit (BTS’s partner for North America), posted their excitement earlier today about the new achievement. Fans also made it to Twitter’s Worldwide Trends with #MICDropWentGold minutes after hearing the news.
According to RIAA official standards, amongst one of the many requirements to earn gold certification, the group must sell 500,000 units, in which one unit is defined as one” permanent digital download” or 150 “audio and/or video streams.” If strictly streaming on sites such as Spotify and YouTube, 500,000 units is equivalent to 75 million streams.
RIAA will be updating their official website with “MIC Drop” very soon. Keep checking back when you can!
Congratulations to BTS for making Kpop history with their prestigious new gold certification!
