BTS has accomplished another amazing feat for a K-pop group!
On November 21st, it was revealed that BTS has become the first Korean group to have their song certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their popular track “MIC Drop” has now reached over 1 million units and was certified platinum on November 9th. The only other Korean to reach platinum in the USA was solo artist PSY with his viral hit “Gangnam Style.”
In addition, their newest album Love Yourself: Answer has been certified gold with 500,000 units, making them the first-ever Korean artist to have an album go gold in the USA. The title track from that album, entitled “IDOL,” has also been certified gold by the RIAA, thus becoming BTS’s fourth song to reach gold status in the USA.
For the RIAA, units are counted from both downloads and audio or video streams. A digital download counts as one entire unit, while 150 audio or video streams are counted as one unit.
Congratulations to BTS on another amazing record!
