Boys Republic Announces Indefinite Hiatus And Farewell Performance

Sad news for Boys Republic fans! The group has revealed they will be ceasing activities.

On September 12th, the group’s label revealed that a decision had been made for the group to stop their activities indefinitely. They went on to apologize for the sudden news but assured fans the decision had been made after a lot of careful thought and discussion.

Along with the announcement of their indefinite hiatus, the label also revealed that Boys Republic will be putting on a final performance for fans. Boys Republic the Last Live ‘The End..And’ will be held on September 30th at 7 p.m. KST at the KT&G Sangsangmadang Theater in Seoul. Tickets will be provided free of charge so that fans can come and spend a special night with the group for their farewell performance.

Boys Republic debuted in 2013 and made history by becoming the first K-pop idol group to debut under Universal Music Group, the American global music corporation that is considered one of the “Big Three” record labels, along with Sony Music and Warner Music Group.¹ Managed in Korea by Happy Tribe Entertainment, the group held their last Korean comeback in 2016. Since then, however, they have been busy promoting in Japan to greater exposure and success.

In late 2017, each of the members auditioned for the idol-rebooting show “The Unit.” Three of the members passed the auditions to become part of the show and went on to gain many new fans through the exposure. In fact, member Suwoong achieved the 15th spot in the final ranking for the show, impressing fans with his great skills.

After the group gained more exposure in Korea due to their appearance on “The Unit,” fans hoped they would be able to capitalize on their newfound success and hold a Korean comeback once more. Unfortunately, it seems those hopes will not be realized for now.

There is no further word on what the group’s members plan to do from now on, so stay tuned for developing details.

Check out the announcement below for their final show.

We wish the members of Boys Republic the best of luck in whatever path they chose to walk from now on!
