Becoming A UNUS: A Beginner’s Guide To UNVS

unvs posted together on a sofa

2020 had some solid debuts and UNVS was no exception! The group burst onto the scene in February with their debut Timeless but with so many K-pop groups fighting for attention, it can be a little hard to keep up with every group.

Even though they’re rookies, UNVS already has some great content, so you may not know where you should begin. Fear not, readers! WTK is here to guide you on your journey to becoming UNUS, UNVS’ fandom.

If you’ve been thinking to yourself that you should take the time to get to know these members, there’s no time like the present!

Step 1: The Basics

  1. UNVS first debuted in Taiwan in 2016 as a group called Universe. Their Taiwanese debut single was called I’ll be Here.
  2. You may be wondering exactly how to pronounce UNVS. Is it just a stylized way to spell Universe? Actually, it’s an initialism, so you just say the letters.
  3. The fandom name is pronounced “you & us.”
  4. UNVS was originally set to debut with Timeless in 2019 but the debut was pushed back to 2020.
  5. Two of the current members were in the original 2016 lineup.

Step 2: Meet the Members

Jun.H
Leader, Main Rapper, Vocalist, Lead Dancer

Although Jun.H is constantly pushing UNVS beyond their limits to make the group better as a whole, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a fun side. He teases the members— according to him, no matter how tall YY is, he’s 2 cms taller than YY— and enjoys spending his time relaxing by reading some manga and watching cartoons.

YY
Lead Vocalist, Center

YY is one of UNVS’s original members and the only Chinese member of the group. He’s a member who tends to catch the attention of new fans due to his striking looks, which he describes as “cold.” However, YY’s personality is far from icy. YY loves re-watching old movies and says that UNVS and his family are the most important things to him.

Eunho
Main Vocalist

Eunho has been described as both “dark and sexy” and “lethargic and sexy” since debut which is to say that his sexiness simply isn’t up for debate. Although his quietness may lead some to think he’s aloof, he says he deeply enjoys being praised and names UNUS as the most important thing to him.

Changgyu
Lead Vocalist

Changgyu‘s bright personality and equally bright smile are sure to win over anyone’s heart— who could resist the double whammy of his eye-smile and dimples? Along with YY, Changgyu is one of the original members from the 2016 lineup of UNVS. Given his cuteness, you may mistake him as the group’s maknae, but he’s four years older than the actual maknae! Changgyu is currently serving in the Korean military, he’s projected to return June 2022.

Jen
Rapper, Vocalist, Dancer, Maknae

Self-proclaimed pure and innocent, Jen is UNVS’s youngest member. Although he says he worries about his vocal skills not improving, he doesn’t have the same anxieties about his dancing and says he’s the group’s best dancer. As such, we know he’s confident and determined to constantly improve!

Step 3: MVs and Dance Videos

Since their debut in February, UNVS has released four incredible music videos, including their latest, “Sand Castle.” UNVS is making a name for themselves as rookies who are unafraid of showing their more mature and sexy side through music videos which resonates with fans. “Sand Castle” is no exception and features the beautiful cinematography UNUS has come to expect from UNVS.

Don’t forget to check out member Eunho’s solo “Waterfall,” as well the group’s music videos for “Give You Up,” “Solar Eclipse,” and “Timeless.”

Make sure to give UNVS’s performance and dance practice videos a watch too!

Step 5: “Rookie King” Show

So, you know the members’ names and a bit about them, and you’ve heard some of their songs, but now you want to learn even more! In that case, “Rookie King” is the answer. A show which runs in approximately 30-minute episodes, each program will allow you to get to know the members in a classic K-pop move: by making the members engage in various shenanigans!

Step 6: Becoming A Fan

Congratulations, you’re now ready to become a fan! You can start by following UNVS (as well as other fans) on social media. Get in there and join the fandom discussions, make cute edits, debate which emojis best represent each member, and more. Above all, prepare yourself for UNVS’s future activities which may include acting, solo albums, and mixtapes.
