As you know, “Back In Time” is where we discuss the top 10 most beloved music videos and songs from legends of the Kpop industry. Today, we honor our lovable boys from DSP Media— the amazing Kpop idol group SS501 (pronounced Double S 5 0 1).

This group consists of five members: Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Kyu Jong, Park Jung Min, Heo Young Saeng and Kim Hyung Jun. The members debuted on June 8th, 2005, and quickly became one of the staples of the Kpop industry. They left DSP Media in 2010 when their contracts ended, beginning their long hiatus as a group.

SS501 leader Kim Hyun Joong stated that they will never disband and will always be SS501. This was proven to be true as the five members reunited onstage during a concert in 2013. In addition, several of the members have done joint tours together, and the group’s special project unit Double S 301 has recently released their second mini-album and are active doing promotions.

The other two members, Kim Hyun Joong and Park Jung Min, are still currently serving in the military.

For this list, we will be counting down our top 10 favorite videos and songs that touched the hearts of fans from all over the world! Lets get started, Triple S!

#10 “Love Like This” (2009)

This song is so amazing! It’s one of the quintessential songs of Kpop, with the melody giving every fangirl an eargasm. I think members Kim Hyung Jun and Kim Kyu Jong really stand out a lot in this song with their multiple singing parts throughout. Even the video itself, despite being simple, still gets the message out very well. It’s fun and catchy! And who doesn’t love the classic dance from this MV?

#9 “Fighter” (2005)

You will probably remember this as one of SS501’s older songs from when they first debuted. I have to say that although this concept didn’t fit them perfectly, it was a very popular concept among Kpop boy bands during the early 2000’s. I love this song because of the determined lyrics that state “I can always fight you in my mind.” The song talks about chasing your dreams and that no matter what, we are the ones in control of making our dreams happen. It’s definitely an inspiring song!

#8 “Love Ya” (2010)

I love this song because SS501 is just so sexy! This concept fits them so much. The song is actually quite sad, and I love the lyrics in the beginning: “I don’t know what to say, but just listen.” This song is about a man who is in love with a woman that doesn’t return his feelings, but he is still asking her to just let him love her. As a fan, you can imagine SS501 is talking right to you with the line “Baby, let me love ya love ya love ya!” It’s a really catchy song that is still great today!

#7 “Because I’m Stupid” (2009)

This song became a sensation due to the Korean drama “Boys Over Flowers,” where SS501 leader Kim Hyun Joong played the character which quickly became iconic as the “second lead” love for which Kdramas are now famous. SS501 had the opportunity to sing an OST for the drama, and it became a hit in Korea during (and even after) the time the drama aired. For many people, it was the first Kpop song they heard and the reason they became fans.

#6 “U R MAN” (2008)

This song has to be one of my favorite songs from SS501! The group was missing Kim Hyun Joong and Park Jung Min at the time as both members were both were busy in dramas. However, the remaining members released a song as a trio, and this is what started the Double S 301 sub-unit! Even as three members, they were a huge success and were featured on a “Boys Over Flowers” episode as well. Both the song and dance are amazing and remains as one of the group’s classic tracks. Heo Young Saeng stands out a lot in this song as his vocals were finally allowed to fully shine.

#5 “A Song Calling For You” (2008)

This song marked the end of SS501’s bad boy concept at the time and allowed them to move on to something a bit cuter and lighter. This MV was playful and adorable and displayed the members in a variety of settings as they showed off their acting skills. The song was fun and catchy as well. Wouldn’t you love to be the girl in this video?

#4 “4 Chance” (2006)

This playboy concept, sassy singing, and mean piano make me want to dance along to this song! Listen to the track and tell me you don’t want to bop along too. This SS501 song showed a different side of the boys, and it was definitely a shift for them as Kim Hyung Jun had singing and rapping parts in the song. They were starting to really come into their own sound at the time, and it was great!

#3 “Snow Prince” (2005)

Perhaps one of the most iconic SS501 songs, “Snow Prince” was one of their biggest hits at the time. Released in 2005, it was the beginning of what many consider to be the “golden era” of Kpop. The song itself is light and catchy, and the video shows the members looking dapper in a dandy, gentleman style. If you want to relive one of the best times in Kpop, then listen to this song!

#2 “DEJAVU” (2008)

That hair… the outfits… everything about this video totally screams “2008.” Fashion aside, the boys totally killed this song! This song is still great today just because it goes so hard the entire time. The dance was just amazing, and the track never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it. This song showed the industry that SS501 was definitely one of the biggest stars of the moment.

#1 “Let Me Be The One” (2010)

This R&B song was one of the last songs released by SS501 as a group. Part of their eighth mini-album Destination, the lyrics are a shy, romantic confession of love. The song quickly became a favorite of fans as it was a gift to the Triple S fandom. The video itself shows a montage of special moments and memories of the group. The track shows off the clear voices and perfect harmony for which SS501 had become so famous by this time. Still one of the most-beloved songs by the famous group, “Let Me Be The One” is the special song at our number one spot on the list.

BONUS: “SAXOPHONE” (2016)

This song deserves special recognition as it was just released on Double S 301’s newest album ETERNAL. It’s one of the grooviest, funkiest songs they have ever recorded and performed, and I love the fact they changed their sound as they grew together as artists! Make sure to check this out as well and support Double S 301 on their recent comeback.

The list of amazing songs by SS501 (and their sub-unit and soloists) could be endless! For more great and memorable songs, you can check out performances of tracks like “Coward,” “Find,” and “Green Peas.”

Every Kpop fan is aware of the recent news concerning member Kim Hyun Joong and his ex-girlfriend. Despite this, the other members have expressed their trust in the group’s leader and even recently stated that they hope to reunite with him again soon. No matter what your personal feelings are on this matter, you can’t deny that SS501 is responsible for some of the greatest and longest lasting hits of the Kpop industry and made endless contributions to one of the best eras of Kpop music. Even now, six years after their last album as an entire group, they are still one of the best-selling artists in Kpop, with their fans around the world still supporting each member and their subsequent activities.
