ARTLOVER Is Retro-Inspired In Debut EP “Queen Of Retro”

ARTLOVER has released her first mini-album!

On November 16th, a week after the Korean release of her album ARTLOVER dropped the new EP on international sites as well. The new album is entitled Queen of Retro and includes a total of four tracks, including the previously-released track “Want U Back.” The title track for this album is “Hakuna Matata,” a funky, cool track with a steady beat and unique mixture of deep rap and higher vocals that provides fans with a cool experience as they listen.

In fact, a large part of ARTLOVER’s appeal is her versatility. While her vocals are clear and sweet in her higher range, they still have an edge of power that makes her stand out from many other female artists in the K-pop world. Meanwhile, her deeper, throaty rap is both soothing and sexy, adding an air of maturity that is absent from many K-pop tracks.

As a makeup artist turned singer, the artist has a unique approach to music as she aims to please people both “sonically and visually,” as she put it in a previous interview with What The Kpop. The mini-album is described as an “eclectic mix of hip-hop, retro pop and soul packed into an 80’s outfit inspired by music from such icons as Madonna and Dolly Parton.” ARTLOVER worked with an amazing crew on this production, including singer-songwriter Max Billion (Mike Perry, Cazzette, Mark Needham, Oliver Nelson), JYP Entertainment‘s Lee Tae Sub (DAY6, TWICE), and Seo Dong Kwang (Apink, Eric Nam).

ARTLOVER previously shared that she gets inspired by both 80’s fashion and music, especially Michael Jackson. However, she also enjoys Korean folk rock, jazz, rappers like G-Dragon, R&B like Zion.T, and more. This unique blend comes out in every track of ARTLOVER’s, making for a fun sound and vibe in her every track.
