Despite only being active for half a year, boy group ALL(H)OURS already holds many titles!
The septet were the very first idol group to debut in 2024, having been dubbed Stray Kids‘ cousins and JYP Entertainment‘s nephews. They even received a personal message from Park Jin Young himself at their debut showcase.
The connection exists due to the group’s company EDEN Entertainment— whose CEO Cho Hae Sung is the former vice president and chief marketing officer of JYP. In fact, he oversaw some of the launches of some of K-pop’s hottest acts such as 2PM, TWICE, ITZY and Stray Kids.
Before ALL(H)OURS makes their comeback on July 2nd with their second mini-album, WITNESS— which is set to “SHOCK” with electrifying choreography in the title song— let’s learn a bit more about the rising fifth generation group below!
Introduction To ALL(H)OURS
The group consists of leader and main vocalist Kunho, dancer and lead vocalist Youmin, main rapper Xayden, vocalist Minje, rapper and sub-vocalist Masami, lead rapper and sub-vocalist Hyunbin, and main vocalist, dancer and maknae ON:N.
The team name is a wordplay of the phrases “all ours” and “all hours” and holds the meaning of giving all of themselves in every moment.
We Show ALL OURS at ALL HOURS!
Meanwhile, the group’s fandom name “Min(ut)e” continues the theme of clever wordplay by combining “minute” and “mine,” which contains the meaning: “as time is made up of minutes, ALL(H)OURS’ time is made up of fans called Min(ut)e.”
First Idol Group To Debut In 2024
Making their debut on January 10th with their first mini-album ALL OURS and the hip-hop based title track “GOTCHA,” the group’s first music video currently has over 23 million views and counting.
The song features a strong bass sound that drives the flow of the track and complements the group’s formidable performance. The sophisticated composition, clear progression and skillful pacing allow each members’ individuality to shine through amid the solid delivery of the track.
In their debut, group proved they are ones to watch with their exceptional dance skills and live vocals that never missed a beat. Living up to their name, ALL(H)OURS practiced the debut choreography everyday for three months.
ALL(H)OURS: Emerging Performance Group
Their first mini-album’s particularly impressive B-side, “WAO WAO,” is a song that incorporates backflips and athleticism in its performance choreography to make it as equally satisfying to watch whether experienced through its performance video, live stage or dance practice. The group has been praised for their synchronization and ability to maintain high-energy performances from start to finish.
The EDM, trap-based, hip-hop number starts with a dramatic weight and leaves an unforgettable impression with its catchy chorus hook and unconventional vocal line design and vocal production that breaks the typical idol group formula.
ALL(H)OURS = ALL-ROUNDERS
Off-stage, ALL(H)OURS has showcased further musical potential through songwriting and composing, with all members participating in the creation of their first mini-album closing track, “ALL OURS.”
The light-hearted song tells the story of the members from their innocent meeting to their debut. It has a future hip-hop sound with a harmony of jazzy chords and colorful synths that expresses the members’ characters well. The fact that the group participated in writing and composing gives the song an added sense of authenticity.
Prepare For “SHOCK” Comeback
In the new mini-album WITNESS— which will be released on July 2nd at 6 p.m. KST— title track “SHOCK” is a song that combines K-pop with drift phonk, a genre that has recently been attracting attention in the EDM club scene.
Drift phonk is a subgenre of phonk, which in itself is a sub-genre of hip-hop and trap. Emerging in the late-2010s in Russia, drift phonk is categorized by its use of 808 cowbells as a melodic element, high pounding electronic basslines and distorted sounds. The genre echoes the adrenaline and excitement of car racing, hence its name, and is typically at a greater tempo of original phonk tracks.
The newly-trending genre and unique music style of ALL(H)OURS is heightening anticipation for the new release. Meanwhile, the septet continues to show their ambition for songwriting as a team, once again with every member penning lyrics for the track “Blah Blah.”
Ahead of their comeback, ALL(H)OURS just recently launched their first original content, “ALL MINE YOU’RE MINE,” on their official YouTube channel where fans get to see a different side to the members and get to know them in more entertaining ways.
The second mini-album from ALL(H)OURS and the music video for its title track “SHOCK” will be released on July 2nd at 6 p.m. KST!
