Tragic news today in Korea— actor and variety star Kim Joo Hyuk has passed away.
On October 30th, the actor was involved in a terrible car accident that claimed his life. According to initial results from the investigation, it appears the actor had a heart attack while driving down the road in Gangnam, Seoul. The police and Konkuk University Medical Center stated, “It seems the accident occurred after he showed symptoms of myocardial infarction.”
According to black box footage from nearby cars, the actor’s vehicle suddenly stopped in the road before swerving off and crashing down the stairs of a nearby apartment building. The car flipped in the process and then caught fire. Firefighters responded to the scene, putting out the fire and then using tools to pry open the car. He was transported to the hospital where he later passed away.
The actor was known for being one of the original members of the hit variety show “2 Days & 1 Night” and for his roles in dramas like “Lovers In Prague,” “God of War,” and “Argon.” In addition, he was in demand for big movies such as the 2017 blockbuster “Confidential Assignment” and had recently finished filming for the upcoming period film “Heung-bu.” Last month, he began filming for a highly anticipated zombie thriller with his former “Confidential Assignment” co-star, Hyun Bin.
Mr. Kim was in a relationship with actress Lee Yoo Young (“Tunnel”). Just last month, he stated in an interview that he was thinking of their future and would like to get married and have a daughter.
Out of respect for the parties involved, WTK will not be sharing any videos of the crash or rescue attempts. While we understand this to be a topic of interest due to Mr. Kim’s popularity as an actor and variety star, we find the sharing of such videos to be highly insensitive and inappropriate.
