A Look Back: October Releases That Thrilled K-pop Fans Around The World

October has been a thrilling month for K-pop fans around the world! Not only did the big-name K-pop stars such as BLACKPINK and TWICE gear up for their releases this month, but other great bands like Cosmic Girls (WJSN) and Golden Child also released some amazing songs! Just in case you missed out, let’s look back at some of the best K-pop releases from this past month.

BLACKPINK – THE ALBUM

On October 2nd KST, BLACKPINK released THE ALBUM. With guest spots from Selena Gomez and Cardi B, the release is the first full-length studio effort from the powerhouse K-pop quartet. Watch the music video below for their lead track!

Golden Child – “Pump It Up

Do you know Golden Child? They are an idol group from that consists of 10 members: DaeyeolY, Jangjun , Tag , SeungminJaehyunJibeom, Donghyun, Joochan, and Bomin. The team debuted in August 2017 with “DamDaDi” under Woollim Entertainment.

On October 7th KST, the boy band’s retro-tinged second single “Pump It Up” was released! Check out the music video here.

Cosmic Girls (WJSN) – “Hmph!

Also on October 7th KST, Cosmic Girls’ (also known as WJSN) sub-unit Chocome (which means “shorty” in Korean) dropped a retro-flavored release titled “Hmph!”

Cosmic Girls was formed by Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment, debuting in February 2016 with the extended play, Would You Like?

KYUHYUN – “Daystar”

On October 8th KST, Kyuhyun released a single called “Daystar” featuring actor Yoo Yeonseok in its music video. It is a ballad song with sentimental emotion in Kyuhyun’s appealing vocals, making it perfect for autumn.

Kyuhyun’s discography consists of one studio album, three extended plays, seven singles, three promotional singles, and seventeen soundtrack songs. He debuted as a member of South Korean boy band Super Junior in 2006.

Weki Meki – NEW RULES

Weki Meki made their comeback on October 8th KST, unleashing their fourth mini-album, NEW RULES. Their company, Fantagio Music, revealed that the album would highlight the members’ free-spiritedness and confidence. 

Weki Meki is a girl group that was formed in 2017. The group consists of eight members: Ji Su-yeon, Elly, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Do-yeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy.

NCT – RESONANCE Pt. 1

NCT, a super group under SM Entertainment which now has 23 members, released NCT – The 2nd Album RESONANCE Pt.1 on October 12th KST. The 13-song tracklist fronts two lead singles: “Make a Wish (Birthday Song)” and “From Home.

TWICE – TWICE OF OCTOBER

Marking the fifth anniversary of their debut, K-pop girl band TWICE dropped their second full-length album on October 26th KST.

TWICE also celebrated their fifth anniversary by releasing four special video clips from October 7th to October 9th. In the run-up to the release, the band also spiced up the event with its “Eye Opening Week.” During the week, teaser contents for their new album hit social media and trended worldwide.
