It was discovered that IDs are being bought and sold overseas for “Produce 101: Season 2” voting.
On May 7th KST, a source from Mnet stated, “We are blocking overseas, as well as duplicate, voting. We are looking into the situation.” They further noted, “It’s difficult to accurately confirm [the situation] today. We will reveal our position soon.”
According to new rules, overseas fans are unable to vote for “Produce 101” this season. However, IDs with voting capability are being bought and sold via online community boards. If this situation builds up to a large-scale problem, fairness will be severely affected. In addition, the production team will be unable to avoid the blame for not being able to stop such monetary transactions.
“Produce 101” seems to have scandal after scandal. Viewers, overseas and in Korea, have many frustrations due to various situations that have arisen. This ID situation is particularly concerning since it shows a breach of account information security.
