SHINee‘s Key is back with his third mini-album Pleasure Shop on September 23rd at 6 p.m. KST.
The title track “Pleasure Shop” is a danceable electro-house song with a unique synth pad pattern and drum beat. Key switches between clean vocals and dynamic rapping, radiating his colorful charm.
Key took part in writing the lyrics which tell a story about “Cyborg Key” leading people into his world. Prolific songwriters Cho Yun Kyoung, Lee Hyung Suk, and Park Tae Won also wrote the song. Meanwhile, its composition is the work of producers Anthony Pavel, Landon Sears, Jackson Morgan, Kaelyn Behr, and MZMC.
In the music video, the story of feeling strange in a world full of joy unfolds as Key appears as the owner of a lens shop following a crash landing in an unfamiliar space. Key depicts the emotion of joy expressed through various visual effects showing AI and a mechanized near-future in his unique sci-fi style.
Pleasure Shop contains a total of six tracks, each containing the SHINee all-rounder’s distinct musical color while incorporating elements of genres including dance-pop, retro house, funk, drum ‘n’ bass and indie pop.
As per tradition with Key’s albums, there is also an English language song. The album closer “Novacaine” joins previous English works “Imagine,” “Helium,” “Another Life,” and “CoolAs” from each of Key’s past releases, expanding the SHINee vocalist’s ever-growing and unique solo discography.
