From SM the Ballad, PENTAGON, CREZL, and to a now budding solo career, Jinho makes his official debut with his first Japanese mini-album CHO:RD on August 28th at 12 a.m. KST.
CHO:RD is a play on words, combining the musical harmony with Jinho’s family name 조 (Jo, sometimes romanized as Cho).
The singer took to Instagram to share his thoughts about the release:
My first solo album is out! I’ve been singing for about 20 years (I look very old), and it’s a precious album with all my experiences, dreams, and favorite things. I hope that listening to it will make your heavy moods and irritations a little lighter. Also, like the “Teddy Bear” lyrics, I hope that the fairy godmother who grants wishes magically appears. Thank you so much for your support and love!
The title track “Teddy Bear” is an R&B song that features a minimalist track, dreamy pad sounds, and an addictive melody. It highlights Jinho’s charming voice and shows off his musical abilities as a solo artist.
Jinho wrote and composed “Teddy Bear” himself which expresses the desire to be a teddy bear that will always be by the side of your favorite person and to know everything about them.
The music video brings the concept to life as Jinho plays the role of the adorable boyfriend opposite actress Yang Seo Hyun. It tells the story by switching between live-action and animation scenes using classic fairytale references uniquely mentioned in the lyrics.
CHO:RD contains five tracks that Jinho participated in writing and composing throughout the album. “OVER” is a deeply personal autobiographical song that tells a story Jinho has never told before. It features all-English lyrics and is the only track on the record that Jinho is credited as the sole songwriter.
