MCND has released their first summer single since their debut with “ADDD” on August 8th at 6 p.m. KST!
The song aims to “fight heat with heat” as the common Korean saying 이열치열 (iyeolchiyeol) goes. It contains an addictive rhythmic hook and an unbalanced mix of percussion sounds such as conga and djembe drums, as well as cheerful lyrics about enjoying the unescapable summer sun.
The music video for “ADDD” marks another first for MCND as the group’s first animated MV. It is a collaboration between the K-pop group and Red Pajama Yaco, a popular Korean YouTuber who creates “병맛 (byeongmat)” musical animations. “병맛” is Korean internet slang describing something purposely ridiculous that is funny due to its absurdity.
With the concept of “Red Pajama Yaco’s Summer Against The Hot Sun,” the music video is comical and witty, using existing characters to portray the five MCND members trying to avoid the sun.
The MV has a running time of only 1 minute and 30 seconds, which is under 병맛 style animations. Thankfully, the full audio of “ADDD” has a longer running time.
Along with the title track, the summer single also features the B-Side song “Campfire,” a fusion hip-hop song that mixes the traditional Korean percussion music “samul nori” with trap beats to create a unique atmosphere.
