After the success of the first K-Fun Korean Festival last year, the Shops at Skyview in Flushing, New York will kick off another summer of Korean culture appreciation!
The celebration will span six weeks from mid-June to August at the popular multi-level shopping mall. The center will host one event a week to explore Korea’s pop music, art, fashion, health and wellness, food, and traditional customs in summer classes for the general public to learn and be entertained with some of the most popular aspects of the culture.
K-POP DAY: Sunday, June 16th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Starting off the schedule of summer classes with a bang is the wildly popular K-Pop Day! Last year’s special guest was Moon Jongup, the main dancer from the iconic group, B.A.P. For the inauguration event, he dazzled and charmed fans with his dancing and fan service. A few lucky lucky fans got to try a cocktail made by him, win a shirt designed by him, and were fed a kimbap he made. This year, there is even more fun in store for fans!
For the 2024 event, the Shops at Skyview welcome Jung Daehyun, Jongup’s fellow B.A.P member and the main vocalist of the group. Daehyun is known for his powerful, unique voice, charming personality, and acting skills. When not singing onstage as a K-pop idol, he is acting and performing in musicals like as “Napoleon,” “All Shook Up,” and “Grease”. He has released multiples singles, a single album, and an EP in Korean. He has also released a Japanese single and has also dropped special releases for variety shows and a TV drama. As part of B.A.P, Daehyun and his fellow members made history as the first K-pop group to perform in New York’s Time Square in 2012.
Daehyun’s visit to the Shops at Skyview will be his first appearance overseas since B.A.P’s last U.S. concert tour in 2018. For the Meet-and-Greet, he looks forward to reuniting with his fans again and will share that he is preparing to release an album sometime this year. There will also be a live dance performance by the AKF Dance Studio.

K-CULTURE DAY – Thursday, August 8th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Wrapping up the summer, the K-Fun Korean Festival will finish with the K-Culture Day. Patrons will be amazed by Korean handicrafts with a traditional hanbok runway show. There will also be folk dancing and music performed by the Korean Traditional Music and Dance Center (KTMDC). Guests can try on hanbok and remember their experience by taking photos in a photo booth. Shoppers can also try their hand at traditional Korean arts and crafts.
This year, The Shops at Skyview partnered with the Korean Tourism Organization in New York and the Korean Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation to present this festival. The groups will provide on-site information about “Visit Korea Year”, tourism, and Korean cuisine during the K-Fun summer classes.
As an extra treat for participants who attend more than four of the summer classes, The Shops at Skyview will provide a “graduation gift” that will include a signed postcard from Jung Daehyun!
