Doyoung is the latest member of NCT to make his solo debut!
On April 22nd at 6 p.m. KST, the singer released his first solo album YOUTH and the music video for the title song “Little Light.”
The track is a band-style song with an attractive strong guitar riff. Doyoung’s vocals which effortlessly transition between powerful and delicate, enhance the refreshing charm.
“Little Light” was written and co-composed by Cho Wonsang of the Korean boy band LUCY, whose lyrics express the hope that the little light inside us all can be a ray of light that helps someone else. It offers encouragement to Doyoung and everyone who hears the song.
YOUTH contains ten songs that capture various emotions and sounds. Doyoung wrote and co-composed the opening track aptly titled “Beginning,” and also participated in the lyrics of “From Little Wave.”
In addition to LUCY’s Wonsang, the album features a number of leading musicians including NCT’s Mark who wrote the lyrics for the song “Time Machine.” which features himself and Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon.
Other artists who contributed to bringing YOUTH‘s vision to life are KENZIE, Seo Donghwan, Kangta, Lee Joohyoung (MonoTree), and CLOUD.
Leading up to the release, the singer unveiled a three-part documentary detailing the creative process behind the album, showcasing just how hands-on the NCT vocalist was in every detail of his solo work.
Many of the artists mentioned above make appearances in the documentary, as well as NCT’s Johnny and Jungwoo, SHINee‘s Minho, Super Junior‘s Kyuhyun, and Doyoung’s older brother, actor Gong Myung who starred in the YOUTH highlight medley film.
Doyoung has established himself as a leading K-pop vocalist by showing his unique singing ability and outstanding sensibilities in various ways through team activities with NCT, NCT 127, and NCT DoJaeJung as well as several OSTs and collaboration songs. Now, based on his musical skills that he has built up over the past eight years, Doyoung starts a new year as a solo artist.
