On January 26th at 2 p.m. KST, JYP Entertainment‘s multicultural girl group VCHA made their official debut with their single “Girls of the Year” along with its music video!
The song contains the girls’ bold ambition to “become the girls who will represent this year” and was produced by notable names in the industry like Marcus Anderson, Lauren Aquilina, and Chloe Latimer. Its music video follows the process of VCHA’s training and behind-the-scenes preparations as well as their successful venture into the limelight. The digital single also contains the B-side track, “XO Call Me.”
VCHA’s six members Lexi, KG, Camila, Savanna, Kaylee, and Kendall were selected through the show “A2K” (America2Korea). The survival project was a collaboration between JYP and Republic Records and aimed to create a global group “based on the first K-pop training system in North America.”
J.Y.P Entertainment representative Park Jinyoung personally served as a judge during auditions in five major cities in the United States (Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Dallas, and LA) to find candidates with the potential to be part of the project.
VCHA previously dropped a pre-release single called “SeVit (NEW LIGHT)” and a music video for “Y.O.Universe” last September. They will be the opening act for TWICE‘s February and March stops of their “Ready To Be” world tour.

Katherine grew up watching Korean dramas and other Asian shows. Although she first learned to appreciate Korean music through OSTs broadcasted locally, it wasn’t until 2011 that she properly paid attention to K-pop. She holds a fondness for SEVENTEEN and NCT and would recommend (G)I-DLE, Dreamcatcher, and XG to whoever cared to listen. She reads just about anything and is currently easing back into full novels.
