It was only last year that AKMU’s Lee Chanhyuk made his solo debut with his eccentric body of work showcased in ERROR, putting his abilities as a performer and producer on display.
Now, on June 28th at 6 p.m. KST, the musician officially launched Leechanhyukvideo with the release of Umbrella. The project album sees Chanhyuk step away from the microphone and into the shoes of a producer and arranger. It contains 12 songs that feature fourteen guest vocalists from various fields of the Korean entertainment industry.
The line-up includes idols Im Siwan (ZE:A), Chaeryeong (ITZY), and AKMU’s own Lee Suhyun alongside singers Chang Kiha and Hanroro as well as actresses Lee Seyoung, Seorina, Ko Asung, and Shin Sehwi. Comedienne Shin Bong Seon (Celeb Five,) Olympic speed-skater medalist Kwak Yoongy, model Sang Yoonju, and YouTubers Youngdae Ko and Seungwon Im also took part in the project.
Umbrella features double title tracks “Dance” and “Simple Words.” “Dance” features vocals by actress Se Hwi Shin and is a remake of the 2008 release by indie rock band Broccoli, You Too. Meanwhile, “Simple Words,” sung by AKMU’s Lee Suhyun and singer Chang Kiha, is a remake of trio Oksu Sajinkwan’s 2014 song.
The album is Lee Chanhyuk’s first release since establishing his own video agency CHartLABEL. Leechanhyukvideo aims for this project to provide listeners with comfort by presenting them with videos, visual artwork, performances, and exhibitions that stem from a desire to find one’s own personal space when in need.
